JAMIE-LEE GARNER

Jamie-Lee Garner is an interdisciplinary artist who currently lives and works in NSW, Australia. Using her astonishing handmade sculptures, Garner explores “the relationship between our inner world and our external reality. Dealing mostly with the energetic integration or dissonance of our memories”

“There is always a thread of spirituality and a sensitivity to plant life, geology and architecture, as the external and non-human representatives of beauty and diversity on this planet.” ~ JL Garner

She brilliantly engages with a wide range of media including film, painting and clay. Her clay pieces are especially unique, as she has created an avant-garde approach to pottery work by producing a collection of pieces she calls "Fluffies". These pieces mark an ethical pivot in her creative career as she branches out into using sustainable materials.

The Fluffies, which are made up of 8 ‘Seussian’ forms are extravagant and distinct in shape, colour, and form, with a captivating texture that makes you want to reach out and touch them. What's interesting about them is how they play on paradoxes - they appear to be soft and lightweight, but in reality, they are quite heavy due to being made of sandy Raku clay.

“Through the process of warmly wrapping these stone-like vessels, I am reminded of the true expanse of human imagination and collaboration across time and mediums. This fabric has travelled across decades, been held in many hands, loved in many homes and is now living anew.” ~ JL Garner
