ERIC GYAMFI
FIXING SHADOWS JULIUS AND I
As a personal homage to the late composer, this exhibition of over 500 photographic amalgamations beautifully conceals the entire room and is accompanied by a series of WhatsApp voice notes Gyamfi has curated since 2018 of his friends and family discussing their thoughts about the portraits which I feel really stimulates the thoughts you have whilst viewing; I was certainly stimulated by the varying opinions about the piece and it really helped set the mood accordingly.
The spectacular images remind me of looking through a kaleidoscope as all the images don distinctive, almost hallucinogenic patterns. I think it’s really interesting how the entire room has been submerged in photographs and what is even more engaging about it, is that all the images are different. Although they are all blue due to the cyanotype and their subject matter is the same; they vary beautifully in opacity, saturation, size and form, which makes the entire viewing experience absolutely immersive.

Paired with the deep blue tone of the cyanotype, these images collectively harbour sentiment, and emotions and allow us to appreciate the endeavours of both Eastman and Gyamfi in their times
Eric Gyamfi is a Ghanaian photographer who explores various methods of photography such as analogue, digital and chemical processes, often fusing them together to create complex and fascinating images.
Floppi Magazine recommends this exhibition as a must-view this summer for all who are in the London area!!
