AN ODE TO A NATION | HONOURING PALESTINIAN ARTISTS
by Saidat Animasaun
We’ve all watched and heard of the atrocities happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza, and while there is not much we can do as individuals to impact this grotesque political conflict, we can however keep the names of Palestinians in our conversations and prevent an ongoing ethnic cleansing.
The simplicity of embracing our surroundings and creating art has been stripped from these people, but we have to celebrate them for the work they have produced and the words they have written and the impact they have continuously made on our societies despite their pain and suffering. We understand art is the last thing on everyone’s mind about this matter, but
we are writing this article to remind us all that they once shared the same livelihood and found joy in creating before their realities were turned upside down and more importantly, honour the legacy of these Palestinian figures and ensure their works remain unforgettable.
Here are some Palestinian Artists who deserve the same attention as influential Western artists and should be in our art books and minds.
